French Riviera on a Budget: Charming Coastal Towns to Tour Beyond Nice and Cannes

My partner and I are planning a trip to the French Riviera this fall, but we are trying to avoid the exorbitant prices of hotspots like Nice and Cannes. We want to experience the authentic Mediterranean charm, great food, and coastal views without breaking the bank. Which smaller, lesser-known towns along the coast would you recommend for budget-friendly accommodations and easy public transit access?

You should definitely check out Villefranche-sur-Mer. It's right next to Nice but feels worlds away and much more relaxed.

Menton is amazing! It has gorgeous pastel houses, amazing lemon-themed treats, and is very close to the Italian border so things are slightly cheaper.

Don't skip Juan-les-Pins. It's adjacent to Antibes and offers a slightly more retro, budget-friendly beach vibe in the off-season.

Eze is famous for its exotic garden, but staying down by Eze-sur-Mer gives you direct train access and a much quieter beach experience.

Whatever you do, buy a multi-day pass for the TER regional train. It makes hopping between these smaller towns incredibly cheap and convenient!
