Hey everyone, I'm planning a week-long road trip through Romania next month and I could really use some advice on the itinerary. We want to start in Bucharest, hit the main highlights in Transylvania like Brasov and Sighisoara, but also venture a bit off the beaten path if time permits. Is seven days enough to cover this comfortably without spending the entire time driving, or should we narrow our focus? Also, any recommendations for reliable car rental companies at Otopeni airport would be greatly appreciated!

Seven days is definitely doable, but it will be a bit rushed if you try to squeeze in too much off-the-beaten-path stuff. Stick to Bucharest, Brașov, and Sighisoara to keep driving times reasonable.

If you love exploring lesser-known spots, you might want to check out some suggestions for Off-the-Beaten-Path Eastern Europe before you finalize your exact route through Transylvania.

I rented through Klass Wagen at Otopeni airport last year and had a great experience with them. Just make sure to read the fine print on their insurance policy!

Honestly, 7 days is quite tight for a road trip starting in Bucharest. The traffic leaving the capital can eat up hours of your day, so plan your departure time wisely.

Don't miss Bran Castle and Rasnov Fortress while you are near Brașov. They are touristy for a reason—totally worth the stop!

Sighisoara is amazing to walk around at night once the day-trippers leave. Definitely stay at least one night inside the citadel walls.

For car rentals, I always use direct international brands like Hertz or Sixt at OTP. A bit more expensive, but worth it for peace of mind.

Make sure to drive the Transfăgărășan highway if it's open! Though with only 7 days, adding that in might make your itinerary way too packed.

Bucharest to Brașov is a straightforward drive, but the mountain roads beyond can be slow going due to trucks and local traffic.

Try not to book accommodation too far in advance in every single city if you want flexibility, though for Sighisoara in peak season it's safer to plan ahead.

The food in Transylvania is hearty and delicious. Make sure to stop at local roadside guesthouses for some traditional ciorbă.
