Hey everyone! I'm planning a short trip to Jordan and only have 5 days to see the main highlights. Is it realistic to visit Petra, Wadi Rum, and float in the Dead Sea within this timeframe without feeling totally exhausted? If anyone has done a similar itinerary, I would love some advice on the best way to structure the days, whether to rent a car or hire a private driver, and where to stay for the best experience. Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is definitely realistic! I did a very similar trip last year. You'll be on the move quite a bit, but it's totally worth it. I recommend spending 2 days in Petra, 1 night in Wadi Rum, and the rest near Amman and the Dead Sea.

Five days is tight, but completely doable if you stay organized. Just pace yourself so you don't burn out by day three. If you enjoy fast-paced multi-destination trips, you might also like looking at itineraries like this Low Countries tour for inspiration on short getaways.

I'd suggest hiring a private driver for this specific route. Driving in Jordan can be a bit chaotic with the desert roads and local traffic, so having someone else navigate lets you relax and sleep between locations.

We rented a car at Queen Alia International Airport and drove ourselves. It gave us a lot of freedom, especially on the King's Highway. Just make sure to download offline maps because cell service drops out in the canyons.

For Petra, stay right in Wadi Musa within walking distance of the Visitor Center. That way you can be at the gates by 6:00 AM before the tour buses arrive and beat the midday heat.

Definitely book a luxury bubble tent in Wadi Rum for at least one night. Stargazing in the desert with a traditional Bedouin dinner was the absolute highlight of my entire Jordan trip.

Day 1: Arrive, drive straight to the Dead Sea to unwind. Day 2: Drive down the King's Highway to Petra with stops at Kerak Castle. Day 3: Petra full day. Day 4: Wadi Rum jeep tour and night in the desert. Day 5: Head back to Amman for your flight.

Don't skip Little Petra! It's much quieter than the main site and gives you a great preview of what's to come without the massive crowds.

Make sure you buy the Jordan Pass before you arrive. It includes your tourist visa and entry to Petra, Wadi Rum, and dozens of other sites, which saves you quite a bit of money.

Floating in the Dead Sea is fun, but honestly, half a day there is more than enough time. The water is so salty that you won't want to stay in for very long anyway!

If you love historic regions and multi-country travel, similar planning strategies apply to other famous routes, such as organizing a complex Silk Road itinerary.

Wear very comfortable walking shoes for Petra. You will easily log 20,000+ steps exploring the Treasury, the Monastery, and the tombs, so leave the fashion shoes at home!
